The Post War Era: Innovations in American Art

The end of World War II ushered in a period of exceptional creativity in art and a powerful shift into abstraction. Our special exhibition will highlight several of the artists who led the way, with unique works and original prints by Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Frank Stella, Sam Francis, Robert Motherwell and Helen Frankenthaler. As well, we’ll be featuring fine examples of the transition into Pop art, in which popular culture becoming the new muse for artists including Lichtenstein, Katz and Dine.
We are pleased to have Gabrielle Selz, the noted author and expert on Sam Francis, present a lecture at 7 p.m. Not only was her father one of the artist’s closest friends, but her personal knowledge of Francis is exceptional. Space will be limited, so please RSVP at your earliest convenience.
