A fine 18th century impression of Bartsch and New Hollstein’s second and final state, Usticke’s, second state of three, printed after the addition of the diagonal shading to the forehead of Lazarus, but well before the very late rebiting of the plate.

Catalog: Bartsch 72 ii/ii; Hind 198; Biorklund-Barnard 42-B; Usticke 72 ii/iii; New Hollstein 206 ii/ii.

Upon receiving word of the death of Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, Jesus traveled to Bethany and raised the dead man, who had been buried in a cave for four days (John II:1-4). In this etching in comparison with The Raising of Lazarus. The Larger Plate, Christ is brought back to human scale, and the crowd reacts rather reservedly to the miracle.
