A dark and richly printed 18th century impression of Bartsch’s third and final state, Usticke’s third state of five, New Hollstein’s fifth state of six, printed after the white spots in the upper margin were shaded with cross-hatching, issued by P.F Basan in the Basan Recueil.

We see a lying nude woman from the back. In the 18th century the print was called simply “The sleeping woman”; Bartsch was the first to identify the model as a negress.
