A superb impression of the definitive state, from the edition published in a special issue of the Jacques Lassaigne book Marc Chagall. Dessins et Aquarelles pour le Ballet (there was no hand-signed edition).  Published by Editions XXeme Siècle, Paris; printed at Atelier Mourlot, Paris.

The Jacques Lassaigne book in which this lithograph was used as the frontispiece presented Chagall’s set and costume designs for Tchaîkovsky’s ballet Aleko, Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird, and Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe.  The lithograph itself Chagall patterned after one of his designs for Ravel’s Daphnis et Chole, which was performed at the Paris Opera on June 3, 1959.
