Girl illustrates Walasse Ting’s poem “Around the U.S.A.” (page 118) in the unbound book 1¢ Life, which features Ting’s poetry accompanied by more than 60 lithographs by Pierre Alischensky, Karel Appel, Enrico Baj, Alan Davie, Jim Dine, Oyvind Fahlstrom, Sam Francis, Robert Indiana, Alfred Jensen, Asger Jorn, Kiki O.K., Allan Kaprow, Alfred Leslie, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Claes Oldenberg, Mel Ramos, Robert Rauschenberg, Reinhoud, Jean-Paul Riopelle, James Rosenquist, Antonio Saura, Kimber Smith, K.R.H. Sonderborg, Walasse Ting, Bram van Velde, Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselmann. It was edited by Sam Francis. According to E.W. Kornfeld’s essay in the 1¢ Life brochure, published by Kornfeld in 1965, Ting established headquarters in Paris for 10 months to supervise the printing of the lithographic plates. In the fall of 1964. 1¢ Life was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
