Sam Francis worked in collaboration with Garner Tullis for many years, creating hundreds of unique monotypes.

In 1972 Garner Tullis and his wife, Ann Tullis, founded the Institute of Experimental Printmaking in Santa Cruz, California. It became the Experimental Workshop (EXP) in 1976 when it was relocated to San Francisco. Garner Tullis left the company in 1982 and opened his own studio, Garner Tullis Workshop (GTW), in Emeryville, California and subsequently print studios in Santa Barbara, New York City and Urbino, Italy. The Experimental Workshop continued to be owned and run by Ann McLaughlin (formerly Tullis) and her husband, printer Will Foo.

This collaborative project was created by Sam Francis with printers Garner Tullis and Will Foo.
