Marissa Oosterlee

(Dutch, born 1981)

Biography

Marissa OosterleeSpecializing in a superbly refined hyperrealist style, Dutch artist Marissa Oosterlee was born in The Netherlands in 1981. She began drawing at an early age and continued to refine her skill as the years passed. Balancing her creative side with a physical aptitude, she also trained as a semi-professional cyclist. An unfortunate accident at the age of 20 shifted her focus completely to her artistic endeavors.

Oosterlee’s early work as an illustrator evolved into her career as a fine artist. She has been the recipient of numerous awards for her work, including one for a national Dutch painting competition with her portrait of the Queen of Holland in 2004. Since that time, she has developed her hyper realist style to such a high level that her paintings are now featured in collections throughout the world. More than just stunning surfaces, however, her paintings are imbued with a psychological depth that emanates from her subjects. Her love of Old Master art infuses her contemporary style as she works in very thin and delicate layers that allow the light to penetrate the surface. Often combining airbrush alongside traditional tools, she is very much an artist of our time, but with inspiration from the past.
