Diana the Huntress, Red

Richard MacDonald
Diana the Huntress, Red
19 x 8 x 12″

MacDonald’s original goal was to study the anatomy of various female body types to arrive at the ideal creation of a heroic winged Diana. MacDonald became so involved in his beautiful and sensitive studies that they took on a life of their own and the Diana series was born.
The myth of Diana as goddess of the hunt is well integrated into the sculpture as Diana is portrayed well toned and possessing the attributes of a skillful hunter. Diana is poised upon an abstracted crescent of the moon, her sign, adding to the mysterious quality of the “hunt.” Her bow is set aside as we find her in a feminine moment of her reverie.
