Original etching printed in black ink on laid paper bearing the block letters “Van Gelder” accompanied by a Strasbourg Lily (fleur-de-lys in a crowned shield) surmounting the letters “VGZ” watermark.

Signed and dated in the plate in the title margin lower left J.J. Tissot / 1881.

A richly printed impression of Wentworth’s second and final state. Printed after the addition of the inscribed text to the title margin below the image, from the edition of 400 (there were 100 additional impressions printed prior to the addition of the text, for an overall edition of 500). Plate II of IV from the suite L’enfant prodigue.
